07:15 i Pothia, Kalymnos
I stayed in Pytagorion until Thursday, October 4 when the wind finally
turned over from south to west. Did not want to go by motor all the way down to Kalymnos again, not if it is possible to sail. Just wait a bit. If you are not in a hurry, and that's what I have the least of.
Went away on Thursday and sailed down to "our" anchor bay on Agathonisi with all goats and a brown cow. Nice and easy again. Love this bay!
October 5, it was a little more wind and now it came straight from behind! Not so good, the foresail did not want to stay on the same side so I had to go a little east of the layline to get the best speed.
For those who don´t know so much about the noble art of sailing, I just want to mention that "layline" is the course straight at the goal, or a rounding point if you participate in a race.
After 7 hours and 35 M I arrived in Kalymnos again. Five knots in mean speed. The wind increased all the time and the waves got bigger so I decided to help with the engine because the larger waves were overtaking
and it was difficult because they always wanted to turn the boat around. With a little help from the engine, I escaped the worst of the waves so it was nice. Came into the harbor and got a good spot just outside "MY TAVERNA".
I have now been here for nine days and have managed to get some maintenance on the boat. Teak on deck and in the cockpit have
been sanded and painted with new UV protection in the form of a teak sealer. It also preserves the fine lustre of teak. Had a bit of luck when the entire was sanded and there came a heavy thunder storm rain that washed away all dust and salt.
Have also spliced, "braided" together two lines that I use to stern anchor. At one point, when I came up to Samos there was not enough rope to come al the way up to the dock so I had to extend
with another rope, fastened with a big knot! Not as good as it can get caught. And it always does when you are in a hurry, Murphy's Law.
Otherwise, I'm just enjoying the nice
weather and the wonderful warmth. 25 degrees, at least, in daytime and not below 19 at night.
At home, I have heard that it's just rain and even frost sometimes. Contrast with
this. Have a contract to take the boat up November 12 in Leros Marina. Have tickets to get home on November 16 via Athens and Brussels to Landvetter. My beloved Åsa pick me up at Landvetter late on Friday night. Will be nice to come home to all my darlings.
Have to fix everything before that.
Right now I´m just enjoying being here.
Since last time I have just waited and spent the time but also painted the deck and railing bars once again. Now, these will be well protected against all the rain and wind that will come here in winter time. Also I have, almost every day, learnt some
more from the Greek language by Maria and Pantelis and others in the Taverna. Yes, this has of course been going on during most of the summer, on and off. Maria has also learnt some Swedish from me.
Right now the weather situation is a little unstable with strong winds and tomorrow, Tuesday, we get some thunder with accompanying heavy rains. I have put up the tent under the bimini, dubble protected, can never be bad. I moved
the boat to a more secure position in the harbor. There was no electricity, broken, but yesterday I put out a loooong cable to the next cabinet. I have a 50 m cable reel and it was used except for a couple of meters.
As usual it is warm here despite all the wind, 25-28 ° C ☼ during the day and 19-20 ° C☻ at night. We'll see if the temperature drops tomorrow with all the rain. It's nice to be here so far.
In two weeks I will take the boat up on shore and check out what I have to do before I can put it into the water again. Some things I already know but some other can of course appear when it is
up. I have to replace two bottom valves that I know of and there will also be some improvement of the bottom painting and removal of shells and grass at the waterline. Polishing the hull above the waterline may also be necessary. Guard rail strip is damaged
in a couple of places and need to be replaced.
Yes the list will probably be longer.
I will just be lazy and have a good time, one thing at a time.
